Specialists at Oman's Environmental Authority are monitoring the Steppe Eagle, one of the rare birds of prey, which is sighted in the Sultanate of Oman during the winter season. This bird is globally listed as a threatened species. The bird is characterized by its dark brown plumage, broad black wings, and high capacity for long-distance flight during migration seasons. Specialists explained that the monitoring was part of the field tracking programs implemented by the Authority across various natural environments in the governorate, aiming to document biodiversity and track rare and migratory species. An ecosystems specialist at the Environmental Authority in Al Buraimi Governorate, Mohammed Al Balushi, stated that this bird species depends on open desert environments where natural prey is available, and its presence underscores the importance of continuous efforts in monitoring migratory birds and enhancing their protection programs.
