The Arab Parliament welcomed the agreement signed in the Omani capital, Muscat, on the exchange of prisoners and detainees in the Republic of Yemen, hailing the great efforts made by the Sultanate of Oman in hosting the talks and supporting the negotiation efforts that led to the conclusion of this agreement. The Parliament also praised the sponsorship of the United Nations and the International Committee of the Red Cross.
In a statement issued today, the Arab Parliament also commended the efforts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, its support, assistance, and cooperation to reach this agreement, appreciating its strenuous efforts aimed at reaching a comprehensive and final solution to the Yemeni crisis.
The Arab Parliament affirmed the importance of this step in alleviating the human suffering of the Yemeni people, stressing its full support for all efforts and initiatives aimed at achieving security, peace, and stability in the Republic of Yemen, in a manner that meets the aspirations of the dear Yemeni people for a dignified life.
Secretary-General of the Arab League Ahmed Abu Gayet welcomed the agreement signed in the Omani capital, Muscat, on the release of a number of prisoners and abductees of various nationalities in the Republic of Yemen.
The official spokesperson for the Secretary-General, Jamal Rashdi, quoted Abu Gayet as saying that this agreement represents an important humanitarian step that requires follow-up and building upon through additional initiatives aimed at releasing more prisoners, abductees, and detainees in Yemen.
The Secretary-General expressed his appreciation for the efforts made by the Sultanate of Oman, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Office of the Secretary-General's Special Envoy to Yemen, and the International Committee of the Red Cross, which contributed to reaching this agreement, expressing his hope that it would contribute to creating a suitable climate for a comprehensive and sustainable solution to the Yemeni crisis.
